Automobile Tags

New Residents must apply for Florida Tags and car titles within 10 days after they begin working, Florida automobile tagapply for a homestead tax exemption or enroll children in school. Proof of Florida insurance also is required BEFORE tags can be issued.

Florida ‘s state sales tax is 6 percent. Some items are specifically exempt. Brevard county’s resort tax is 5%. The county tax is imposed on short term rentals (les than 6 months) and all lodging rates.

When you purchase a home in Florida you will pay an ad valorem or “property” tax base don the taxable value of the property. Ad valorem taxes are assessed by the county property appraiser and collected annually by the tax collectors office.

A $25,000 homestead exemption is available to home owners who meet certain requirements. Certain exemptions also available to blind persons and other physically challenged residents.
